Inter Miami CF wrote history on Thursday afternoon and claimed their very first FIFA Club World Cup victory with an exciting 2-1 comeback victory in Portuguese Giants FC Porto in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium of Atlanta United.
Lionel Messi was again the hero, curly in a spectacular free kick in the 54th minute to complete the turning after Inter Miami went early.
Porto opened the score in the 8th minute when Samu Aghehowa converted a penalty, awarded after a VAR review confirmed an error by Noah Allen on João Mário. The Portuguese side almost doubled their lead, but a target line by Maxi Falcón and a shot from the Alan Varela pole kept the score on the way to half time.
Miami came with goal in the second half. Only two minutes after the restart, Telasco Segovia hit a powerful first finish of the cross of Marcelo Weigandt to deliver the game.
