Electric vehicles are now in a strange place. The regulations change and the sale is stagnating, but that does not mean that Automakers completely leave large batteries for thirsty engines. Mercedes-AMG will soon have the AMG GT XX, but it can produce a two-door variant-if the company can justify the investment.
AMG Baas Michael Schieben told Coach At the Munich Motor Salon: “Emotional, yes, we have to do that. The question is whether there is a market that is large enough to justify the necessary investment.”
But Schiebe is not against making a halo car, if necessary. He said the publication that a brand sometimes has to build a vehicle that is “important for the brand, and you have to do it because it is a brand-shaper.”
If such a car arrives, or not at all, Schiebe would not say, but he added: “We are currently trying to understand what is happening in the market. And then we define the target of that very specific car.”

AMG has the flexibility to decide when such a car Greenlicht for production, which would compete against cars such as the Porsche 911 and Maserati Granturismo Folgore.
“We want to be successful in terms of technology and performance, but also economically successful”, and the brand has so much flexibility because “we constantly revise our portfolio and look at it.”
Automakers withdraw to EVs
Mercedes may be preparing its new sedan, but the market does not embrace high -quality, expensive electric vehicles like before. In recent months, car manufacturers have withdrawn their electrification plans, canceled projects and reconsider their future products.
Lamborghini can convert his first electric vehicle, only in 2029, into a hybrid, and Koenigsegg has learned from his customers that they have little interest in an electric hypercar. Ram announced last week that it has canceled his electric pick -up.
Mercedes may be considering a new, electric Coupé, but it will probably be the market that determines that decision, and it will build it if people want it.
