Two brothers in the center of one of the most horrible murder cases in the 20th century will have a new chance of freedom after 35 years in prison.
Erik and Lyle Menendez – better known as the Menendez brothers, whose story was engraved in public memory by the ‘samples’ series of Netflix – have dramatically reduced their lifelong by a judge in California.
This means that the murderers can soon be released in what an almost incredible turn would be for one of America’s worst real crime sagas.
Last year the then Los Angeles officer of Justice George Gascon asked for a change in their sentence of life without the possibility of conditional release of 50 years to life.
Because they have committed the crime under the age of 26, this is eligible for conditional release.
Judge Michael Jesic, La County Superior Court, said: ‘I don’t say they should be released, it’s not up to me to decide.

“I really believe that they have done enough in the last 35 years that they should get that chance.”
The State Parole Board still has to decide whether the brothers are released from prison.
The judge said on Tuesday that prosecutors should prove that the brothers like the brothers are still a risk to again commit a violent crime.
Erik and Lyle, 54 and 57 years old, showed no emotion during most of the testimony as they appeared via Livestream video.
But they then chuckled one of their cousins, Diane Hernandez, the court said that Erik A+ figures achieved in all his lessons during his most recent semester at the university.

How one of the worst murder cases in America unfolded
Erik and Lyle Menendez were only 18 and 21 when they entered their Beverly Hillshuis in August 1989 and shot their rich parents, José and Kitty Menendez.
In August 1989 the bodies of Jose and Kitty Menendez can be found in their vast mansion Beverly Hills.
Their two sons, Lyle and Erik Mendez, survive.
Lyle Mendez, 21, was arrested in March 1990. Only a few days later Erik Mendez, 18, changes herself into authorities. The couple is then both accused of murder of their parents’ first degree.
It took years before the case ended up, with each brother being tried with a separate jury in July 1993.
The court heard from the prosecution that the brothers killed their parents to get their money.
But the brothers claimed that they acted out of self -defense after emotional and sexual abuse of their father, who makes an effort for years.
Both juries were tackled in January 1994, which means that a new process had to start with a single jury in October 1995.
In March 1996, seven years after the murders on Kitty and Jose, their sons Lyle and Erik are convicted of murder and convicted of prison without the possibility of conditional release.
