Me and training – now, then and in the future. – Travel Friday

I love goals and long lists of everything I need to do to make life a little more fun! As much as I enjoy writing them down myself, I love it when other people involve me in their goals – in this case, the training goals.

Me and training – now, then and in the future.

A few years ago, my then PT decided to run a marathon and asked if I wanted to participate. I wanted that! After a while, she dropped the upload due to time constraints. I? I raked in and eventually achieved that goal – which was initially hers and then became mine.

Earlier this morning my sister called and asked if I wanted to participate in the Midnattsloppet in Malmö at the end of August. It took me two minutes to think before I agreed. Of course I will be running a race in Malmö, I don’t have that on my training resume yet!

Another thing I enjoy, besides writing goals and lists, is browsing through my photo archive here on the blog. It reminds me of the years when…

…my blog name was “Yesterday you said tomorrow” and the content was a mix of exercise, family life and travel.

Nowadays I wear training clothes most days and spend a large part of my working days on or next to the padel courts. Cleans, plays, socializes. However, the specific training content here on the blog is almost completely replaced by different types of travel, although some training updates appear in the Friday Five between rounds. Maybe it’s time to reclaim that piece here in my blog corner?

Last year I also thought about whether an Oura ring would be a kind of “fresh start” for training life. As a birthday gift I was given the choice between one of these and a monthly subscription to BookBeat. I chose the latter and don’t regret it for a millisecond. Tobias took the ring and sometimes that ring made him act exactly like Gollum in The Lord of the Rings. He more or less lost all rhyme and reason about his own ability to make his body sense whether he was tired, sleeping well, exercising enough, etc. Has anyone experienced the same?

My training goals for 2026

I had written about specific training goals before this year (and also last year). “Get better at padel”. One of my children objected loudly to this vague goal. Better? According to whom? Who will you compare yourself to and what will you be like? Nevertheless, relevant questions. Maybe it’s time to ramp up my training goals in 2026? Let me start today:

  • Run the Midnight Run in Malmö: Time doesn’t matter, it’s about execution and fun!
  • Strength training at least twice a week throughout the year: Of course, the calendar only shows January 19, but so far there is a check on this goal (which actually started in December).
  • Yoga: Once a week is reasonable, during the weeks in Thailand it will be more!
  • Step: Since the pandemic I rarely get below 10,000 steps a day, I want this to be the bare minimum.
  • Fell: Continue playing league matches (draft-americano) and move up a division.
  • Monthly dates with my training group: This (already established) goal fits perfectly into this list. After a few years what it feels like “Seven Sorrows and Eight Sorrows” our training trio from before decided to occupy our active monthly dates. We went out strong with a kick-off in Nynäs Havsbad at the start of the year.

Hm, I actually think that should be enough? It feels both reasonable and fun. Happy new year of training!
