McDavid delivers historic performances at the 2026 Winter Olympics

The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan are only three games away, but Connor McDavid is already making it look easy. After one 10-2 win over France On Sunday, McDavid now has nine points from three games. He leads the entire tournament in scoring. Additionally, he has already set a new record for most points by a Canadian NHLer in a single Olympic tournament.

While he is busy rewriting the Single Games record book, he is also quietly approaching the record of his captain, Sidney Crosby.

McDavid’s historic start

By recording three points in three consecutive games, McDavid became the first player at an NHL-attended Olympic Games to achieve that feat. He has one goal and two assists in every match so far. This pretty much sums up why he was the most anticipated player heading into this tournament.

His nine points surpassed the previous one single-tournament mark for a Canadian NHLerwhich was held by Jonathan Toews with eight points in 2010. What makes it even more impressive is that McDavid has done it in just nine seasons of hockey. At this rate, he’s not just chasing gold. In fact, he sets a standard that may not be touched for a long time.

Chasing Crosby for the most points

While McDavid breaks single-tournament records, Crosby adds to his career totals. With a goal and two assists against France, Crosby tied the record for most career points by a Canadian forward. NHL era of the Olympic Games with 16. He passed Jarome Iginlawhich previously had the limit of 14.

What’s interesting is how close McDavid already is. He is only seven points back. Crosby has competed in three different Olympic Games and reached sixteenth place. Meanwhile, McDavid has nearly reached double figures in less than a week. And with a maximum of three games to go in another week, he could very well reach 20 points by the end of the tournament.

What’s next for Team Canada

Canada finished the preliminary round with a perfect 3-0 record and secured the top seed heading into Wednesday’s quarterfinals. With the way McDavid, Nathan MackinnonAnd Macklin Celebrini playing, it feels like more records could be broken before this tournament is over.

We’ll see how it unfolds once the knockout stages begin. But at this point, it’s hard not to notice how dominant McDavid has been on the world stage.
