Maya’s milestone: joint increases in the semi -final of Seoul

Seoul, Zuid -Korea, September 20, 2025 | Vivienne Christie

Maya Joint has collected a new milestone in her breakthrough season and defeated World No.12 Clara Tauson to continue to the semi -final of the WTA 500 tournament in Seoul.

The Australian, who is on World No.46 more than 30 places under no. 12 Tauson, needs an hour and 13 minutes to take her 6-0 6-3 victory.

It marks Joint’s second victory over a top 20 opponent this year. As a qualifying match at Merida in February, she surprised Donna Vekic to reach the quarterfinals.

One of the five teenagers who win a WTA title this season – after lifting trophies on Rabat Clay and Eastbourne Grass – Joint will strive to continue her stunning shape against no. 1 Seed Iga Swiatek in the semi -final of the Hardcourt event.

It offers a chance for a second victory over a Grand Slam champion in the South Korean capital, after a joint stunned Australian Open 2020 champion Sofia Kenin in the second round.

After starting the 2025 season outside the world’s top 100, the Australian teenager is now at World No.36 in the live ranking.

Joint achieved its best results earlier this year at a hard court at the Hobart International, when she fell in the semi -final in Elise Mertens.

She returns to the Tasmanian capital to represent Australia in the Billie Jean King Cup play-off in November.
