Max Pacioretty seems to be retiring, joins the University of Michigan

After months of speculation about his NHL future, Max Pacioretty seems to be getting away from professional hockey. According to analyst Nick AlbergaThe 36-year-old winger “seems to be hanging his skates” and has taken a role at the University of Michigan.

The name of Pacioretty was circulating heavily in the rumor mill this season, with reported interest from a few NHL clubs. It was rumor that he was most interested in playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings of Toronto Maple Leafs. Much of that speculation was aimed at his desire to play closer to Southeast Michigan, where he lives. It seems clear that those plans did not happen.


The red wings were seen as the most lickest fit, but their signing by James van Riemsdyk early in the free desk, the door was effectively closed on that possibility. Toronto has a surplus of Vooruit and not enough empty slots for Pacioretty to earn a position in the team

Pacioretty leaves an impressive 17-year career, one that was filled with injuries in the last seasons.
