Matt Olson had a fantastic season as an individual in 2025. His all-around excellence led to him being arguably the best first baseman in all of baseball in 2025 and now the hardware is starting to roll in for Olson. He has already been nominated to the All-MLB team and is also a finalist for the Gold Glove and the Silver Slugger at first base.
If he wasn’t the easy favorite to win the NL Gold Glove Award at first base, he now is after Sports Info Solutions released their annual Fielding Bible Awards earlier today. Unlike the Gold Gloves, SIS hands out the Fielding Bible Awards on a baseball-wide basis, meaning they have decided that Matt Olson is the best defensive first baseman in baseball for the 2025 season.
As the above post explains, Olson is no stranger to being recognized for his efforts with the glove. This is now the fifth time he has won the Fielding Bible Award and assuming he can continue to be extremely durable and reliable, I would be willing to bet that he will eventually surpass Albert Pujols and take home a sixth Fielding Bible Award at some point in the future.
In addition to leading all first basemen in DRS with a whopping 17 (which was good for tied for fifth among all defensemen in baseball), Olson was the NL leader among first basemen in OAA (9, trailing only Ty France for the overall lead at 10) and led all first basemen in baseball with a Fielding Run Value of 8 (again Ty France was close at second at 7).
Once again, Olson was already the prohibitive favorite to win the NL Gold Glove at first base this season and after earning another Fielding Bible Award, I’d say he’s almost a shoo-in to add another Gold Glove to his trophy case. The jury is still out on whether he will get the Silver Slugger or the All-MLB nod, but for now, Olson certainly has a case to be the undisputed best defensive first baseman in all of baseball right now.
