Matheus Cunha gives candid insight into his start at Man United – Man United News And Transfer News | The People’s Person

Manchester United star Matheus Cunha has opened up about his first days at the club and revealed one of the most surprising things he has discovered.

Cunha is getting used to life at United

Heading into the summer transfer window, strengthening their attacking department was United’s top priority, and they kicked off these plans by signing Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

United paid £62.5 million to land the Brazilian’s highly sought-after signature.

Although he has yet to open his goalscoring account for United, Cunha has had a great start to life at United. He stood out with his sensational ball carrying and dribbling, which played an important role in moving the team higher up the pitch.

Cunha has come close to scoring on several occasions, suggesting it is only a matter of time before he finally gets off the ground.

The 26 year old spoke with Globo Esportereflecting on his time at United. He highlighted the club’s huge public profile and media attention as a surprise, noting that it has put him on a bigger stage where more people can watch and appreciate his play.

Cunha speaks about United’s move

Cunha said, “What I was looking for more than anything as a person, I find slow. You want to constantly improve; that’s human nature, but I can’t help but stop and enjoy this moment.”

“I feel privileged to wear the jersey of the biggest national team in the world, one of the biggest clubs in the world… It’s a spectacular personal moment. I have a great family, another little girl, everyone is doing well and healthy. I’m enjoying it all in a positive way.”

When asked if he realizes that the move to United has changed his public image, Cunha replied: “Without a doubt. It also makes it easier for them to follow the games, right? (laughs) United’s games are shown more often on Brazilian television. I left the country very young, and being able to see them more often during the week definitely connects me with them (the fans).”

“United is a club with a lot of Brazilian fans. Everything you mentioned is of the utmost importance. I was very happy at Wolves. The moment I arrived there just after failing to reach the World Cup, and the club was what I needed to remind me how great I had become within my capabilities, how caring the club was for me.”

“It was very important to help in the best way possible; they helped me too, and I was able to reciprocate. Of the records and goals, I was most proud of returning the affection.”

Cunha also opened his preferred position. He explained that although known as a striker, he is more versatile and can be deployed in a variety of positions, including midfield, where he mainly operates for United.

“I came to the national team with this stereotype of a number 9 shirt. I play all my basics as a midfielder, and when I turned professional I encountered this world of 4-3-3. It seems like you have to adapt: play centre, winger or eight.”

“They have eliminated the midfielder position and you have to adapt. But I see it positively because it has given me experience and many more positions, and even more so in short-term tournaments with the national team. Having a versatile player is a huge help for any coach.”

Cunha and United are back in action on Sunday when they head to Anfield to take on Liverpool.
