The four year old Marcoola The gelding started well from his wide draw, but had to race three wide early before moving into the parked position for driver Clint Ford.
Ford was given cover from the 1000 yards, then focused on their run from the 350 yards and looked to have covered the field comfortably, despite winning by a close margin of half a length from a game Bullet.
Ford’s sister and co-trainer Amanda Tomlinson explained that Maroubra is “Clint’s project”.
“I can’t take any of the credit! Clinton does all the work with him,” Tomlinson said.
It was his first victory on starting number 20.
MAROUBRA REPEAT
Marcoola has now produced seven individual winners from small numbers, with the oldest crop now being four-year-olds. Marcoola was the winner of eight group races, sixteen races in total with stakes of over $500,000.
“They’re starting to appear a bit now. Despite the limited number he has, he’s doing well. They have a bit of a Sundon trait.”
Maroubra’s victory continues to be a great success for the stable, with their recent successes including Misty Blue’s victory in the Rangiora Summer Cup.
The win marked the 50th for the Ford-Tomlinson training partnership.
“Very exciting to reach 50, but it will be more than that because we are all working as a team.”
Other highlights on the program included Petite Trixton, who made it three wins in a row when she won the Moore Walker Davey Searells Accountants Trot for trainers Brent and Tim White, while junior driver Riley Harrison completed a double for her employers Robert and Jenna Dunn with Brentwood Brigade and Normie Stead, who made his first start from Dunn’s shed.
Michael and Wilson House also worked together to book the card with Super Fund and Nickel And Dime.
