MarketWatch is looking for an ambitious reporter to become a member of his fast -growing technology team to cover the technology – from the figures that move markets to the strategies that shape the future.
You cover some of the Boeziest names in the sector through a financial lens, which translates business profits, stock price movements and C-suite strategy into what it means for an audience of money-wicked readers, budding traders and investors.
You will break news and you will split the news into what it all means for the economy and consumers in general. You provide a smart, accessible analysis of AI trends and developments in chips, software and fintech, with a certain focus on how these companies earn money, spend and try to grow.
You publish articles on income and share performance, but you will also report on the ways in which these companies and the technologies they create influence consumers. This reporter will be responsible for talking with investment managers, technologists and proponents of privacy to detect the next big trend.
The ideal candidate has a background in financial journalism, with a strong understanding of business requests, capital markets and business strategy.
A curiosity about how technology the reform of work, life and investing – and a desire to distil those tectonic shifts for a wider audience – is crucial for this role. You will also be at ease to go beyond the daily news cycle to develop original business work that helps readers not only understand what is happening, but why – and why it matters.
Candidates must have experience with reporting technology and markets. The role will be based in New York.
You will:
- Cover Breaking Technology News with urgency and insight
- Pitch and produce ordinary business stories that go beyond the headlines
- Interview experts and influential C-suite execs in tech to identify trends
- Analyze SEC files and synthesize business profits in accessible conditions
- Work together with Editors, Visuals and other teams to produce high -quality journalism
- Thrive in a fast newsroom
- Work well under pressure and with other members of the team
- Be a competent, insightful and compassionate interviewer
- Be meticulous in your copy and ambitious in your report
- Pitch creative and fascinating story ideas
You have:
- At least one to three years of experience in writing about technology companies via a financial lens
- Fluent in investment tertminology and technology concepts
- Skilled in finding differentiated corners of the news
- A track record of writing unique, fascinating stories
- A proven ability to write clearly and accurately under deadline
- Commitment to reporting with accuracy, integrity and reader value in mind
