Bautista and Oliveira collided last Saturday at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas. This was a great opportunity for Oliveira to break into the bantamweight division. Instead, Bautista grounded “Lok Dog” and earned a submission victory in the second stanza.
After the fight, Oliveira informed AG.Fight that he had suffered an arm injury during the match, which left him unable to get up. During the UFC Vegas 113 post-fight press conference, Bautista wasn’t interested in hearing that the injury is solely the fault of how things went down (via MMAfighting).
“That sucks,” Bautista said. ‘Leads to my Patchy [Mix] fighting, I cracked a rib… I still hit the [expletive] out of him. I don’t care about your excuses. It’s part of the game.”
Bautista also discussed appearing in the main event of a UFC card for the first time, before delving deeper into how he defeated Oliveira.
“It’s surreal,” Bautista said. “First main event, five rounds against a tough opponent. If you watch his highlights all week, you don’t want to end up on that side. If I come out on top, it just feels great.”
“All those transitions. Going from the takedowns, passing, getting into that crucifix, he gives up an arm, I go for the kimura, he kind of jumps out, jumps on his back, throws that rear naked [choke]. Just kind of having all these sequences and flows in my playing. It got me to the finish.”
Bautista is 9-1 in his last ten games. The lone loss came against Umar Nurmagomedov, a top contender in the 135-pound weight class. Bautista’s win over Oliveira was a rebound from the unanimous decision loss to Nurmagomedov.
