This will be Cardoza’s first year on the Major League staff as he enters his 11th yeare years as a professional coach.
Cardoza led the Double-A RoughRiders to a 221-190 record during his tenure with the team. His winning percentage of .538 is currently the best in franchise history.
His best season in Frisco was 2024, when he led the team to an 84-54 record, which is the best regular season winning percentage (.609) in franchise history, and captured the title in the first half.
Cardoza’s total managerial experience includes guiding the Hickory Crawdads, the club’s High-A affiliate, to a 66-65 record in 2022, and a 19-11 record with the Surprise Saguaros in 2023.
He also managed the Down East Wood Ducks in 2021, as well as the Dominican Summer League Rangers and the Arizona League Rangers.
Cardoza has been with the Texas Rangers organization since 2015.
Players spoke highly of their former manager:
“Carlos is an absolute leader. For his players, for his coaching staff. He not only leads by example, but also through the use of his words and the way he coaches. He is both a great man and a coach. He has taught me a lot both off and on the field and has had a tremendous impact on my career!” said a player who played for Cardoza.
Another simply said: “Carlos is a f’g animal.”
“Carlos has been one of the best coaches and mentors I have had during my minor league career. I am very excited for him to have the opportunity to coach at the next level. He is extremely deserving!” said a third player.
Cardoza took over as manager after Jared Goedert left the organization after leading the RoughRiders to the 2022 Texas League Championship.
We wish Carlos Cardoza the best of luck in his new role as the Mariners’ third base coach, except when they play the Rangers.
