Chelsea climbed to second place in the Premier League on Saturday evening after a 3-0 win over Wolves at Stamford Bridge. After a goalless first half, efforts from Malo Gusto, Joao Pedro and Pedro Neto secured three important points for the Blues.
However, a positive evening was marred after several members of Maresca’s squad developed injury problems.
The Italian revealed at full-time that both Fernandez and Neto requested replacements due to knee and groin problems respectively.
Each of them will be assessed to determine if they can leave for international duty during the upcoming break. There was better news about Caicedo, who limped off in the closing stages against Wolves. Maresca has said that the Ecuadorian said everything was fine, but the problem was just a blow.
“He was fine, just a kick on the knee in the first half,” Maresca said of Caicedo.
“But he finished the game and I asked him after the game and he was okay with it.
“Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez did ask for a substitution; Pedro for the groin injury and Enzo for the knee, so we will have to see how they go.”
