Marc Skinner: Head coach reveals what makes his Man United squad unique – Man United News And Transfer News | The People’s Person

Manchester United Women reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League with a 5-0 aggregate victory over Atletico Madrid.

The Red Devils now face Bayern Munich in the last eight on their league debut.

Head coach Marc Skinner discussed the game in his post-game interview with the official club website.

Marc Skinner 100 wins

Skinner was asked to comment on his hundredth victory for the Red Devils.

He replied: “Yeah, I mean, you know me – I always put the team first, so let’s talk about the team. It’s nice to get to 100 wins, and hopefully there are many more.”

Skinner continued: “Tonight I thought they were fantastic. There were moments early on where we had to feel the game a bit because Atletico were attacking and leaving a lot of space. If we had been ruthless we could have put the game to bed earlier. But we are always resilient in defending – we block, we put our bodies on the line.”

He also showered his side with praise, claiming: “I spoke to the commentators and we just have an incredible spirit. I don’t think many teams have that. It’s unique to us.”

Skinner also explained that “to now win eight in a row and beat a team as good as Atleti 5-0 on aggregate shows the special group we have and the special we are building here.”

Praise for fans

Skinner also took time to praise the fans for their role in the club’s recent success.

He beamed: “They were incredible. Not just in Madrid, but brilliant here tonight. And let’s be clear: they are the twelfth woman, man and child. They were everything. I’m going to ask them again: we have to go again on Sunday.”

Chelsea test

Skinner’s team will take on Chelsea in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon. Commenting on the match, he said: “We have a very tough match, so we need them in our corner. They mean the world to us. To keep making history for them and to hear them singing ‘we’re going on a European tour and we’re going to continue it’. Honestly, it makes you emotional as a coach.”

The match starts on Sunday afternoon at 1.30pm GMT.
