Maple Leafs’ Scott Laughton is out vs. Bruins due to an injury to his upper body
The injury occurred with just over five minutes left in the second period, after Laughton took a high hit from Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov. Bobby McMann objected to the goal and dropped the gloves to Zadorov after the goal. Zadorov did not receive any form of discipline during the game, with the two fighting majors being the only penalty minutes to come from the altercation.

If Laughton were to miss any time due to this injury, it would be a terrible break for someone who just returned to the lineup on Wednesday after missing the start of the season on a blocked shot in one of the team’s final games. His return has stabilized the Leafs lineup, sliding him back into his regular role as a center on the fourth line and letting the other three lines fall into place.
Acquired by the Maple Leafs at the 2024-25 NHL Trade Deadline, Laughton never really found his footing offensively, but toward the end of the playoff run he found a home on the fourth line with Steven Lorentz and Calle Jarnkrok and found himself making an impact away from the puck, playing a prominent role on the penalty kill. He reunited with Lorentz in his return to the lineup with Max Domi on the other wing.
The Maple Leafs will immediately shift their focus to the second game of their back-to-back as they host the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday. Laughton’s availability for that game is unknown at this time, but it’s possible the Leafs still give him the game given the quick turnaround. If he is unavailable, he will try to rehab until their next game on Tuesday when they visit the Boston Bruins.
