Carrick has impressed since taking interim charge at Old Trafford following the sacking of Ruben Amorim last month. The 44-year-old is unbeaten in five Premier League games, winning four and has lifted the Red Devils into the Champions League places.
United are looking for a permanent manager with several options being considered for the summer.
Among those believed to be in the picture are Oliver Glasner, who will leave Crystal Palace at the end of the campaign, Gareth Southgate and Julian Nagelsmann. The latter could leave Germany after the 2026 World Cup. However, the linked Thomas Tuchel has signed a new contract with England.
Despite Carrick’s inexperience, his impact so far has won him admirers in the dressing room. Manchester Evening News writer discusses his chances of getting a permanent job Tyrone Marshall said there is strong support for Carrick within the squad.
“Both publicly and privately, she [players] speak warmly of Carrick. He has put a smile back on the faces of many of these players and Bruno Fernandes has been very vocal about his support for the 44-year-old.
“United insist they are planning a ‘thorough’ recruitment process to put the right person in charge for the 2026/27 season, and Carrick has certainly put himself in the picture for that, but I wouldn’t expect a decision until much later in the season and possibly after the end of the season.
“But if the players are asked, I think Carrick will get a lot of support, especially if the results continue as they are. They have enjoyed his coaching sessions, the style of football and the subtle changes he has made behind the scenes.”
