Manchester United has been encouraged to follow the example of Sheffield United by turning into a former manager in an attempt to breathe new life into their fortune.
Chris Wilder returned to Bramall Lane earlier this week, only three months after he was fired and replaced by Rubén Sellés.
The Spanish manager was chairman of a gloomy series of results and lost six consecutive games to leave the Blades at the bottom of the champion table and from the League Cup.
Wilder, who started his senior career at the club and later returned as a player for a second period, the club managed the club twice before and the 57-year-old made it clear that he agreed to return for the third time because “it is my football club and we are under the division”.
Although Manchester United that Nadir has not fully reached, a bad start to the season has only yielded four points from four Premier League matches and a humiliating output from the League Cup to Grimsby Town.
It follows an abject campaign in the past term, when the 20-meal competition champions finished in 15th place, and speculation about the future of United Manager Ruben Amorim is growing daily.
‘I can’t believe that Ruben Amorim is still in charge of Manchester United’
Since the arrival of the 40-year-old in Old Trafford last November, the club has on average a point of a match, and former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara believes that the hierarchy should get a magazine from the Bramall Lane book by turning to former player Ole Gunnar Solskjær, the Norwegian in November 2021.
“This is the worst man United team I have seen,” O’hara told Talksport. “To be honest, I can’t believe that Ruben Amorim is still in charge. When will they let it go?
“When will they just do what Sheffield United has done, just swallow their pride [and say]”Are we wrong?” Get back, catch up again. They can’t do this. They go down, they will play Rotherham next season. “
Manchester United’s record under Ole Gunnar Solskjær
Solskjær, who was fired last month by the Turkish club Besiktas, scored 126 goals in the course of his 11 seasons in Old Trafford before they returned to the club as a manager, initially on an interim basis, in December 2018.
United initially showed a steady improvement among his stewardship and finished sixth, third and second and reached the Europa League final. But a series of poor form that only gave one victory from seven games, saw him fired with the club seventh in the Premier League table.
Despite O’Hara’s characteristic frank support from Sunshine, Crystal Palace -manager Oliver Glasner is the bookmakers’ favorite to replace Amorim, followed by Gareth Southgate and Xavi Hernandez. The Norwegian is a best priced 12/1.
Although Senior United Officials have indicated that Amorim is maintaining the club’s support, it is clear that the situation will be assessed during the international break of next month, with results in coming matches against Chelsea, Brentford and Sunderland who may determine his future.
