Manchester United are reportedly ‘stunned’ by Thomas Tuchel’s brazen decision not to select Luke Shaw in their England squad.
Shaw has not played for the Three Lions since last year’s Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain under former boss Gareth Southgate.
The 30-year-old has started all 13 of United’s Premier League games this season, with the Red Devils looking much better under Ruben Amorim.
United had a tough time last season, but after thirteen games played in the 2025/26 season, the Amorim team is only four points away from second place.
Shaw, who has made 34 appearances for England so far, made his 300th appearance for United in Sunday’s impressive 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.

Normally he operates as a left back, but now plays more in central defense in Amorim’s back three on the left.
Despite a somewhat positional change, The sun reports that United sources are adamant that Shaw should not be left out of consideration as a left-back option for England, and are baffled as to why he has not been picked by Tuchel.

Amorim: Shaw deserves an England recall
In October, United head coach Amorim said: ‘People point fingers at you when you are the national manager, when you choose one or the other.
‘And England have a lot of good players. You can choose two teams to win a World Cup.

‘So I think he deserves it, but also a lot of players deserve to be back. For me, I want him to go to the national team.
“But I also want Luke Shaw to train with me, recover with me and be prepared for my game, so I’m a bit selfish about that.
“So if he doesn’t go to the national team, that’s fine with me because I can control what he does better.”
Is left back a problem position for Tuchel?
Manchester City star Nico O’Reilly looks most likely to be England’s starting left-back for the 2026 World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico.
But behind O’Reilly, Tuchel is struggling with some headaches, while Myles Lewis-Skelly is struggling to get regular game time at Arsenal.
Other options for Tuchel include Newcastle United’s Dan Burn and Tottenham’s Djed Spence.
However, United will be hoping Shaw is picked for the tournament in North America next summer as the club had a player in all fourteen of England’s World Cup squads dating back to 1958.
