Manchester United is reportedly enthusiastic about signing Brighton and Hove Albion star Carlos Baleba, according to Soccer sinsider.
The Red Devils decided to strengthen the midfield department by signing Casemiro in 2022. He showed promising performances in his debut campaign in Old Trafford and led his team to finish third in the Premier League.
However, the Brazilian had difficulty replicating his performance in the following season. So MAN UTD decided to sign Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain last summer as a potential long-term replacement for Casemiro.
But the Uruguayan showed under average performance in the past term. Now he has lost his place at Casemiro in Ruben Amorim’s Start XI this campaign.
It was thought that United would take a step to sign a new midfielder this summer and even opened conversations to sign Baleba. In the end, the sea lions did not allow him to leave for the deadline.
Now, Soccer sinsider Suppose United after not signing a new midfielder this summer is considering strengthening this function next year. Although Man Utd missed the Cameroonian in the recently closed summer window, they still consider him the ‘top’ target and would like to secure his service.
It’s a bad ut
Brighton wanted about £ 100 million this summer for the 21-year-old, but his appreciation will probably rise next year with his existing deal that runs until 2028.
United cannot afford to sign him in January and want to breathe new life into their interest next summer. However, they may have to shift the focus to alternative options if Brighton sticks to their appreciation.
Baleba showed impressive performance in the past term, but has had a slow start this season. The main reason is that he could not participate in the preseason because of an injury, so he is somewhat behind the others in fitness.
The African is a dynamic defensive midfielder and is also familiar with possession. United has no options like him at their disposal, so he would be a great coup in front of Ruben Amorim if they buy it.
However, it becomes interesting to see if Man Utd will eventually succeed in luring him to Old Trafford next year.
