Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries TEAMtalk.
Since moving to the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium from PSV Eindhoven in 2021, the 29-year-old has achieved great success over the years, winning a Serie A title and numerous major domestic cup ties. He even helped his team reach the Champions League final twice.
He has shown his productivity for the Nerazzurri, scoring 16 goals in all competitions last season. Moreover, although he has been out for a few months due to an ankle injury this season, he has already scored three goals in fifteen games in all tournaments and kept three clean sheets.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that despite still having a contract at Inter until 2028, they would be open to letting him leave next year if they receive a ‘serious’ offer. A move in January is unlikely due to his injury, but he could leave at the end of the season.
Man Utd are interested in signing him and could make a concrete approach. However, the purchase of the Dutchman will not be easy, as Newcastle United and Aston Villa are also in this race.
Dumfries has done his best as a RWB for the Italian giants, but is also comfortable in the right-back position, with Ronald Koeman deploying him in this role for the Dutch national team.
Dumfries to Manchester United
The defender, who is 1.80 meters tall, is fast, strong, good in the air, can provide crosses from wide areas and is also efficient in defensive contributions.
United currently have Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui as options for the RWB position, but neither is an attacking player. So Ruben Amorim uses Amad Diallo in this position, but he is not strong enough defensively.
So Dumfries could be a smart signing for Man Utd to play into Amorim’s system if they were to buy him. United have long been interested in the former PSV star, having previously been linked with a move for him.
It will be interesting to see whether the Old Trafford club will ultimately make a concrete move to secure his services next summer.
