Manchester United have expressed an interest in signing highly rated French centre-forward Kader Meite from Rennes Santi Aouna.
Meite joined from Montrouge Youth in 2022 and played at youth level, starting at the U17 and U19 level, where his performances earned him a key role in the French youth teams, including the U21s, where he made three appearances despite being only 18.
His professional debut came on 10 November 2024, when he was introduced from the bench during a 2–0 Ligue 1 defeat to Toulouse. From then on, the teenager has been widely regarded as one of the most exciting young players to come through in France.
This season, Meite has had a tremendous breakthrough and has become a regular for Habib Beye’s European chasing side, featuring in 17 of their 19 Ligue 1 matches, scoring three goals and providing two assists, which has attracted the attention of several clubs.
Among the clubs looking to sign Meite are Man Utd, according to him Aounawho claim that the 13-time Premier League champions have expressed an interest in signing the 18-year-old as they look to strengthen their attack.
Exciting prospect
The report adds that the Red Devils have identified the 6ft 2in star as a possible replacement if any of their centre-forwards leave Old Trafford this season.
However, United will have to act quickly to convince Meite to join them Aouna reports that the youngster is already considering the prospect of a move to the Saudi Pro League, with Al-Hilal keen to sign him.
Joshua Zirkzee is United’s central striker, but the Dutchman has failed to live up to expectations since joining from Bologna and a possible departure is now being considered.
Should he leave, Meite would be a viable option to replace him. Although he has the qualities to become world-class, the youngster will not be in a rush to deliver immediate results as he can be gradually brought into the team as a substitute for Sesko with the aim of becoming a strong competitor for the starting line-up.
However, with a contract at Roazhon Park running until 2028 and interest from Saudi Arabia clubs spending free money, Rennes will look to pay a significant sum for the forward, well in excess of his £8million. Transfer market valuation.
