Several Manchester United fans have taken to social media to praise Jamie Carragher.
Most United supporters are still basking in the joy of their team’s 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday – and rightly so.
Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire, either side of Cody Gakpo’s equalizer, gave United a crucial win and their first away win at Liverpool since January 2016.
The result also marked Ruben Amorim’s first consecutive wins in the competition since replacing Erik ten Hag in the autumn of 2024.
In a surprising twist, former Liverpool captain Carragher heaped praise on Amorim and his team during his analysis segment ahead of West Ham United vs Brentford on Monday Night Football.
During the broadcast, the 47-year-old dissected United’s ‘low block’, which effectively suppressed Liverpool and largely prevented them from breaking through the Red Devils’ defence.
“Ruben Amorim had his tactics absolutely perfect in this match at Anfield,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“There’s no doubt about that. That’s the only way they could win the game.” [by playing in a low block].”
He then focused on how “narrow” the back five United players were “under the ball”.
“Another very important point is that no one ever goes for the ball when it comes to a tap-in or when Virgil Van Dijk misses the ball,” he added.
“So again, I said Cunha is a little bit deeper than maybe a Sesko. So it was all about ‘maybe we don’t win the first ball, but we pick up the second ball’.”
Carragher, who sits second on Liverpool’s all-time list with 737 appearances, also pointed out that both Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk could have done more to follow Mbeumo’s 31-yard run that led to the opening goal.
Despite his links with Liverpool, United fans online cheered Carragher’s tactical breakdown.
One said: “I know a lot of people don’t like him, but when it comes to analyzing game tactics he’s always spot on.”
Another added: “Jamie Carragher with a brilliant analysis of how Man Utd beat Liverpool at Anfield.”
While a third claimed: “Carragher, that is top analysis.”
Liverpool play Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Wednesday, while United return to the Premier League against Brighton at Old Trafford on Saturday.
