Manchester United are reportedly ‘determined’ to complete an ambitious deal to sign Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, according to Spanish newspaper Transfers.
The Red Devils’ midfield department includes Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo. Although Ruben Amorim has played a deeper role this season alongside Bruno Fernandes, the Portuguese is more comfortable in an advanced position.
On the other hand, Amorim has said that Mason Mount can also provide cover in the double-pivot role in midfield if required, but like Fernandes, the former Chelsea star is also more comfortable in the number 10 position.
With Amorim having used Casemiro and Fernandes as his preferred midfielder, Mainoo has found himself on the periphery and is reportedly open to a January move to play regularly and develop his career.
Elsewhere, Ugarte has performed below average when given opportunities. Meanwhile, with Casemiro’s existing contract expiring at the end of this season, Man Utd are set to revamp their midfield department next year.
Transfers state that Amorim’s side have identified Tchouameni as a serious option and have already submitted a formal proposal worth around £79m to sign him. The structure of the offer is £62 million in guaranteed compensation plus £17 million in add-on.

However, Real Madrid considers the Frenchman untouchable and has rejected the offer. Although the former AS Monaco star was criticized last season, he has established himself as an undisputed starter in Xabi Alonso’s starting XI this term.
The Spanish club report that despite having their opening bid rejected, Man Utd have not given up hope of securing Tchouameni’s service and are ‘determined’ to lure him to Old Trafford. United have also started enticing the player to join.
The 25-year-old, who stands 6ft 4in tall, is a natural defensive midfielder but is also comfortable in the box-to-box role. Furthermore, he can provide cover in the centre-back position if required.
Tchouameni is dynamic, technically sound, strong and good in the air. Moreover, he has an eye for long-range passing and is also efficient in defensive contributions.
He has the necessary attributes to thrive in the Premier League, so the Real Madrid star would be a big step forward for Man Utd if they could eventually buy him.
