According to AthleticsMidfielder Toby Collyer is in advanced conversations with the Side West Bromwich Albion championship about a seasonal loan agreement.
The Manchester United -younger has been a subject of interest in various championships, including Hull City, but West Brom seems to have won the race for his signature.
The baggies believe that the young midfielder can help their urge to promote the Premier League under head coach Ryan Mason. They have not played in the top since the 2020/21 season.
The 21-year-old, who came to United of the Brighton Academy in 2022, made an impression in the youth’s youth ranks and debuted for the first team under Erik ten Hag in the Community Shield match against Manchester City in August 2024.
Collyer made 19 performances in all competitions last season. In January he attracted attention in the Europa League meeting with Rangers and registered a record-breaking statistics.
He also contributed to the Premier League victory in Fulham, when he cleared the ball from De Lijn to guarantee a 1-0 win.
However, the English midfielder is in the pecking order and risks not to get enough playing time next season.
Captain Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro are the first choice midfielders of United, and there is also a possibility that Carlos Baleba could participate from Brighton.
A move to West Brom can benefit the development of Collyer, provided that he can nail a starting berth.
The preferred formation of Mason is 4-2-3-1, which means that Collyer would play as one of the two midfield spivots. He would compete with Alex Mowatt and Jayson Molumby, the first choice of midfield couple, for a place in the starting line-up.
United already sent several young people on loan, including Habeeb Ogunneye, Ethan Wheatley, Dan Gore and Elyh Harrison. Collyer is now ready to join them in an attempt to gain more first teaching experience.
