Man United and Tottenham make contact with ex-Barcelona boss

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have both contacted Xavi’s representatives to gauge his interest in a move to the Premier League.

Manchester United are considering a permanent replacement for Ruben Amorim, who left the club earlier this month. Michael Carrick has been given interim responsibility until the end of the campaign as a search for a successor takes place.

Carrick started his tenure with a 2-0 win over Manchester City in the Manchester Derby on Saturday. The interim boss will hope to make his case for the permanent job, although all options are being explored.

Xavi has been mentioned as a candidate as the Spaniard has been out of work since leaving Barcelona in May 2024. The 45-year-old led the Catalans to the La Liga title in 2022-2023 and previously won several trophies with Qatari side Al Sadd.

Transfers report that Manchester United have made contact, although the Red Devils are not the only English club considering Xavi. Tottenham Hotspur have also sounded out the Spaniard as the north Londoners consider sacking Thomas Frank.

Spurs lost 2-1 at home to West Ham in the Premier League this weekend and are 14th in the table. Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou as manager in the summer but the ex-Brentford boss has struggled to deliver results.

Spurs have decided to keep the Dane in charge for tomorrow’s Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund, but his longer-term future is uncertain.
