Police were called to a unit complex on Hamilton Road, Fairfield, after a man was seen on the balcony railing of a unit on the seventh floor. He was speaking to police at the scene when he tragically fell.

A man has tragically died after falling from a seventh-floor balcony in front of shocked police officers.

The tragic incident occurred at around 2.10am today (Saturday 24 January 2026) when police were called by a female resident reporting a domestic and family violence incident.

Upon arrival, officers found a 55-year-old man straddling the balcony railing on the seventh floor. While officers were talking to the man on the ground, he fell to the ground.

The man, who has not been named, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for serious head injuries; however, he died on the spot.

A police spokesperson said: “A critical incident investigation is underway after a man died after falling from a seventh-floor balcony in Sydney’s south-west.

“Police were called to a unit complex on Hamilton Road, Fairfield at approximately 2.10am today (Saturday 24 January 2026) by a female resident reporting an incident relating to domestic and family violence.

“Upon arrival, officers from the Fairfield City Police Area Command located a 55-year-old man straddling the balcony railing of a seventh floor unit.

“Officers on the ground were speaking to the man while other officers were making their way to the unit when he fell.

“The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for serious head injuries; however, he died at the scene.

“A 46-year-old woman – who was in the unit – was assessed by paramedics for shock and minor injuries.

“A crime scene has been established and a critical incident team from Auburn Police Area Command will investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.

“The investigation will be subject to an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and overseen by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.”
