On Wednesday (August 20) the NHLPA and the NHL announced that Connor Ingram was deleted by the NHL/NHLPA player utility to return to the NHL.

The clearing means that Ingram returns to Utah Mammoth for the first time since March. It is great news for both Ingram and the Mammoet, but it does create an even bigger question mark about the target -digesting rotation of the team for the coming season.

Ingram is back In Utah

It all started in November when Ingram was placed on an injured reserve. Utah considered it an injury in the upper body and Ingram only appeared in January. Subsequently, it was revealed that his mother had died in December as a result of cancer, so that he stayed longer than expected from the team than expected.

Ingram returned to Utah after playing a match in the American Hockey League with the Tucson Roadrunners. In his return match against the New York Islanders, after a loud applause from the crowd then announced as the starter for the game, Ingram placed an impressive .938 Save percentage (SV%) in the midst of a 2-1 loss.

However, something was still wrong when the statistics of Ingram continued to fall and Karel Vejmelka started playing more games. It led to Ingram checking for the second time in his career in March in the player tool.

Over time, Ingram’s teammates and fans supported him from Salt Lake City. Fans made letters of appreciation and support that were eventually sent to him. His teammates and coaches made them vocally show their support for their goalkeeper when they were asked about the situation.

Ingram explained a statement when he entered the program and stated that he would not be back until he was 100% healthy. With his approval and return to the Mammoet, the goalkeeper must feel that he is ready to be back in the NHL and to play consistently. Perhaps even beyond the level he did in 2023-24 when he recorded a .907 SV% in a reconstruction of Arizona Coyotes team, The Bill Masterton Trophy Winning In addition to his impressive season.

What is the target of the mammoth that looks like?

With Ingram now back in the fold, the Mammoet now has five NHL-Kaliber goalkeepers who will fight it for the two places on the NHL roster. General manager Bill Armstrong said that this fall he expected an abundance of healthy competition in the training camp. Now he will have that with his goalkeepers.

The Mammoet have signed five goalkeepers who played NHL matches: Ingram, Vejmelka, Matt Villalta, Jaxson Stauber and Vitek Vaněček. The team has also signed Anson Thornton, but after a disappointing season with the Allen -Marikans of the Echl, it looks less likely that it will be much longer in the entire organization.

In the low season, Armstrong Stauber drew again and brought in Vaněček. He mentioned uncertainty about Ingram and his return date as a big reason why he made sure that his goal convening position was well stored.

Looking at the five, Stauber and Villalta will probably be back in the AHL with the Roadrunners. Although both players had great matches in the 2024-25 season with Utah, it is simply not likely that they will beat the three NHL-Laren goalkeepers for a place on the Roster. However, Stauber was able to make the three really hard for their schedules. He had an impressive play -off run with the roadrunners and shown flashes of sparkle at the NHL level.

Then it comes down to Ingram, Vejmelka and Vaněček. Vejmelka will be more than likely to be the starter of the Mammoet during the opening evening. After Ingram had gone into the player tool, he started every match for Utah, except the penultimate match of the season when Villalta got his first NHL start of the season.

Vejmelka also just received a large extension after a great 26-win, .904 SV% season. He is paid like the starter, and with his extensive game last season he will probably get that role unless something crazy happens in the training camp.

Vaněček comes from a Stanley Cup championship with the Florida Panthers, although he did not appear in a single play -off game. He also struggled throughout the season with both the Panthers and the San Jose Sharks. Since the 20222-23 season, Vaněček has no longer had a season with an SV% up .900 with the New Jersey Devils, where he had 33 victories. Perhaps another change in the landscape will help, or maybe the pressure to possibly be close to the NHL will take him back to that level.

The biggest question mark is clearly Ingram. From what we know, he has not played hockey since the end of February. How is he in training camp? Can he go back to the level of competitiveness that we saw from him in Arizona? To be honest, it would not be surprising if he plays most pre -season matches of the five above -mentioned goalkeepers, and even possibly a few games in the AHL to bring him back to the NHL routine.

From now on the Mammoet will most likely rock with a rotation of three goals with vejmelka that plays the most games. It is not something that is unheard of. The Seattle Kraken did it in 2022-23, rotating between Martin Jones, Phillip Grubauer and Joey Daccord, even the play-offs and making the play-offs and Defending Stanley Cup champions Colorado Avalanche, in the first round.

However, if it has to happen, the Mammoet can move a goalkeeper. It is a position that a team always wants to improve. The team could also land some assets. For now, however, it seems that the return of Ingram seems, the battle for target twists will certainly be one to look in the training camp in September.
