Mammoth loses series with 3-2 win over Rangers – The Hockey Writers Utah Mammoth Latest news, analysis and more

Saturday night, the Utah Mammoth hosted the New York Rangers at the Delta Center, looking to snap a four-game losing streak.

The Rangers entered the game on a three-game losing streak and were looking to finish a three-game road trip strong and get back to the level they were playing at, having won seven of nine games before this recent losing streak.

Summary of the game

It was a fast start with chances on both sides, but it was the Mammoth who broke the ice midway through the opening period on a JJ Peterka rebound goal. It was his fifth goal in the last six games.

The Rangers finally got on the board with just over four minutes to play in the first on a seeing-eye point shot from Adam Fox that Vladislav Gavrikov directed into the net – the rare deflection goal from defenders to defenders.

Rangers then took a 2–1 lead after a breakaway goal from Artemi Panarin, where he got a wrist shot almost halfway through the second frame to sneak through the legs of Karel Vejmelka.

The Mammoth responded three minutes later to tie the game at 2-2 on a rebound goal by Clayton Keller following a shot by Kailer Yamamoto, who got his first assist of the season.

The match went straight into the final period. However, the Mammoth regained the lead after Nick DeSimone’s second goal of the season when he beat Jonathan Quick with a slap shot from the point seven minutes into the final frame.

This goal allowed the Mammoth to close out a 3-2 victory and break their losing streak. The Mammoth defeated the Rangers 33-22, a much-needed win after losing seven of their last eight games.

The Mammoth return to action on Monday against the Vegas Golden Knights looking to snap a winning streak, while the Rangers will make a quick stop on home ice against the St. Louis Blues before hitting the road again.
