The New York Knicks start with various schedule questions for the preseason, and Malcolm Brogdon is in the middle of them. The experienced guard signed at New York after having spent a large part of the low season in the free desk. His contract does not guarantee a schedule, but Brogdon is preparing as if his place is safe.
“I come here with the expectation that I will make the team,” Brogdon said reporters via Athletics. “I feel what I put on the table and I have to offer, I can help this team. The decision is outside of my control, but I feel that I need what is needed to help this team.”
Knicks have selection decisions for the bow
New York currently has two open standard contracts available. Brogdon is a candidate to fill one, although his performance in the training camp and the preseason will determine the outcome. The Knicks appreciate his experience, but internal competition makes the decision far from automatic.

Brogdon’s NBA trip
Brogdon entered the competition in 2016 as a second round from Virginia. He quickly made an impact with the Milwaukee Bucks, played 75 games like Rookie and earned the NBA’s Rookie of the Year Award. After three seasons, he landed with the Indiana Pacers via a drawing and trade agreement.
In Indiana, Brogdon spent three years as a reliable starter before moving to the Boston Celtics in 2022. With Boston he embraced a banking role and flourished, on average 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists more than 67 games. His performance earned him the NBAs Sixth Man of the Year Award.
After that success, Brogdon had shorter stints with the Portland Trail Blazers and Washington Wizards. Last season with Washington he appeared in 24 games, on average 12.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 23.5 minutes.
What offers Brogdon de Knicks
The Knicks need depth and shoot at the defense half and Brogdon fits that profile. He has had more than 463 career games on average 15.3 points while shooting 39 percent of a three -point range. His combination of scoring, playing and veteran leadership is exactly what New York is looking for.
The question is whether he can perform the competition during the preseason. If he does, Brogdon De Knicks could give a steady, experienced presence. If this is not the case, he will return to the Free Office as one of the most established guards available.
