- Honda’s new program will offer both genuine reproduction parts and “Honda Compatible Parts,” which have recently been re-engineered to replace other discontinued items.
- Honda says the parts list will include powertrain, interior, exterior, electrical and chassis components.
- The program will expand to other Acura and Honda performance models, but Honda did not provide details on which models are supported.
If you’ve ever had to buy a discontinued part for a sports car that’s over 35 years old, you know that luck and money generally have to be in abundance to succeed. The Acura NSX debuted on the US market for the 1991 model year, placing it firmly in the classic category, and even though it has a better reputation for reliability than, say, a Ferrari from the same period, time is never kind to anything on four wheels. Fortunately, Honda knows and respects its flagship models and those who drive them, launching a Heritage Parts Program to give first-generation NSX enthusiasts the support they need to keep their mid-engine legends in good shape.
The parts offered by the Heritage Parts Program fall into two categories: genuine reproduction parts and Honda compatible parts. The original reproduction components will be made using the same materials and manufacturing methods as the originals, while the compatible parts have been re-engineered using new materials and manufacturing methods. Honda announced this program last summer, but at the time only mentioned replacement parts made with modern technologies.
Honda did not provide details on the full extent of parts availability, saying only that the catalog will include powertrain, interior, exterior, electrical and chassis components. The company also didn’t name any specific cars it plans to support in the future, but says the program will eventually expand to other Acura and Honda performance models.
The Heritage Parts Program falls under Honda’s larger Heritage Works sub-brand, which also includes the restoration service. That in-house restoration service is only offered to Japanese customers, so American customers only benefit from the parts program at this time. If you’re lucky enough to have an NSX in your garage and are eager to get your hands on some elusive parts, the wait is almost over. Honda says they can be ordered through Acura dealers this summer.

Austin’s car fixation started at a young age and in 1:64 scale. Eventually, Hot Wheels didn’t want it anymore, so he developed an obsession with his father’s big 1965 Ford Mustang. Desperate to break into the auto industry, he traded in for a job at a local BMW dealer by promising to stop slinging nerdy tech facts at the salespeople who came into the neighboring coffee shop where he worked. That was also around the time he started writing car reviews, news articles and technical manuals for a number of local and international publications. Now at Car and Driver, Austin brings over 10 years of automotive industry experience and a common love-hate relationship with German engineering.
