The government of Maharashtra has brought a temporary stay in the earlier order of the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC), allowing homeopathy practitioners to practice modern medicine. The stay came after the Indian Medical Association (IMA) met on Thursday (July 10, 2025) Main Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

After the meeting, a report was issued on Friday (July 11, 2025) and stated that a committee will be set up to study and make recommendations on the issue to the government within two months.

“The Maharashtra Medical Council is aimed at immediately stopping the homeopathy registration process -initiated by the Maharashtra Medical Council for further action is taken in the report of the aforementioned committee,” said the Maharashtra government in the notification.

“We have shown Mr. Fadnavis the decisions of the court’s hearing so far. He also agrees that this issue is contemptuous in court and orders the committee,” said Santosh Kadam, IMA state speaker, adding this step, because this is about patient safety and public trust.

IMA decided to hold a 24 -hour strike on Friday (11 July 2025), followed by a rally in Mumbai on July 14. However, it was stopped after guarantees from CM Devendra Fadnavis. The members of the Maharashtra Senior Resident Doctors Association (MSRDA) also met the opposition leader Ambadas Danve and asked to discuss the issue in the current monso -shoulds session of Maharashtra Assembly.

IMA, MSRDA and Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) oppose the decision of the MMC to register the homoeopathic doctors who have a certificate course in modern pharmacology (CCMP) to prescribe allopathic medicines. In the letter submitted to the government on 8 July, IMA said: “If homoeopathic doctors are allowed to practice in modern medicine, this can pose a threat to the health of people and the lives of the patients.”

Various hospitals associated with Mard, including Nair Hospital, Doctors in Resident held a quiet protest on 11 July 2025 against the recent decision of the MMC. “As a characteristic of protest, doctors wore black ribbons on their left arms while continuing their duties in the OPT, departments and operating rooms,” said Nair Mard President Dr. Digvijay Jadhav in the statement.
