Luka Doncic will not hit a free desk next summer.

Doncic signed a maximum extension of three years, $ 165 million, with a player option in the third year, his agent Bill Duffy told ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The deal eliminates the 2026-27 option from Doncic, which means he can unsubscribe in 2028 and again sign for a projected five years and $ 417 million. If that is what happens, Doncic would end up with the same total amount as if he had signed the supermax with the Mavericks, who exchanged him instead.

“I have just signed my extension with the Lakers. Enthusiastic to keep working to bring championships to LA and make Laker Nation proud,” ” Doncic posted on X. “Thankful for the Lakers, my teammates and all the fans who have shown so much love for day one. This is just the beginning.

“Today I also committed $ 5 million to help 77 young athletes around the world to chase their dreams, just like I did. Basketball gave me everything, and I am lucky that I can return and help the next generation.”

Doncic, 26, was in the news this summer and recently participated in a health profile for men to promote his closed physique. That was as a refutation of reporting around the trade that Doncic featured as overweight and unexpectedly about his fitness, which apparently was part of the reason that the Mavericks shocked their franchise player.

According to the magazine, Doncic has retained a gluten-free, low-sugar diet that includes intermittent fasting and at least 250 grams of protein per day.

“Luka is an absolute murderer on the field and combines that with unique generosity and care for the community,” said Lakers GM Rob Pelinka in a statement. “Above all, Luka will lead our franchise to pursue future championships, a goal that the Lakers will define forever.”

Doncic average 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 7.7 assists in 50 games for both the Mavericks and Lakers last season.
