Louis Vuitton strengthens his flagship store in Manhattan, with plans for a new building to be five stories larger than the latest version.
LVMH, the French retailer, submitted an application to the Department of City Planning for a 25 -storey building in 1 East 57th Street in the Plaza District, Crain’s reported. The building would overstrain 148,000 square foot along Fifth Avenue.
The property would be considerably larger than that LVMH in the Razing process, which was 20 floors long and included a relatively meager 91,000 square feet.
The improved 485-foot long ownership would contain a 10-storey flagship store shop, a “World Class experience shop destination”, according to the DCP application. There will be a cafe and terrace with a view of the central park on the eighth floor and four floors of exhibition space that have been brought down above, which will have programs about the brand history of the company.
Other elements of the building are a luxury spa, showroom suites, restaurants and a bar and garden on the top floor.
LVMH applies for a bonus in the floor of almost 25,000 square feet. In exchange, the company would facilitate improvements at the nearby Lexington Avenue-59th Street metro station, including a lift that meets the standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
LVMH did not respond to a request for comments from the outlet.
A year ago, the luxury goods shop had to plan to break down the existing flagship building. Since then, the plot of 8,100 square base has been dressed with lvmh scaffolding, decorated with Louis Vuitton’s characteristic logo print and styled as a stack of trunks.
The plans of LVMH for refurbishing his flagship store have been in the making for years. The conglomerate was reported in 2023 as the interviewing of “Starchitects” for the job. However, it is unclear where it landed on his search, because the DCP application does not seem to mention an architect.
The company again portrays its real estate portfolio on both coasts and plans to have a new Tiffany & Co. -Winkel on the site of the old luxury Rodeo Drive Hotel in Los Angeles. It also submitted plans for a large Louis Vuitton store and adjacent campus designed by architect Frank Gehry.
