UFC Strawweight Loopy Godinez came in her fight on UFC 319 with a new mental clarity that helped her to score the biggest victory of her career when she defeated former champion Jessica Andrade on Saturday evening.
Godinez (14-5) Had said in the run-up to the fight that she felt more focused, happier and more mature. That new mentality helped her to continue to a decision victory over Andrade.
“Even before the fight, I knew that I would win. The way I felt all week. I was super relaxed, super calm, I was just myself. When we were warming up, I told my coach” I don’t really feel nervous, “” Godinez Cageside Press said at her post-fighting scrum.
“Of course I feel nervous because I want to do well and my body prepares me to get into the cage. Not like too nervous. When I was waiting for her in the cage, exactly as I felt, I was really at ease.”
Beating a former champion like Andrade is perhaps the step she needed to get into the title photo. Godinez felt absolutely as the greatest victory of her career, sends a message to the division that she is ready.
“We are here, we make noise, and whatever the UFC determines who the next one is, we will be ready,” she said.
“When I’m at home and see what my manager and UFC want me to do and we will be ready. There is that card (NOCHE UFC), there is Vancouver card that is more realistic in October. See what is for me.”
