Average waiting time for an appointment with the GP
In some areas, patients reported waiting one to two weeks, while a small number waited a month or more.
Overall, these wait times were dependent on practice capacity and a general increase in demand.
In November, Labor said around 45% of patients were seen on the day they requested an appointment.
However, analysis of data from NHS England showed that there were 1.77 million four-week waits for GP appointments across the country in November – almost 250,000 more than in July 2024
In 21% of the appointments there was a waiting time of at least two weeks and in 7.5% a waiting time of four weeks.
According to data from SpareRoom, the average room rent in London will rise to £995 per month by the end of 2025 – 37% more than five years ago.
In September 2020, the average room was just £728 per month.
If you’re in a WC postcode, these figures are even higher: an average room there will cost you £1,339 per month.
Tenants in North London saw the highest annual rent increases, up 2.1% compared to last year.
South of the river it was slightly cheaper: in South East London the average rent is £951 per month.
If you’ve left London over the Christmas holidays, you’ve probably noticed that the cost of a pint is significantly lower in the rest of the country.
As of July 2025, the average price of a pint of beer in Great Britain was approximately £5.17. That’s about 21 cents more than last year.
However, in London the average pint now costs £6.10, with many pubs charging north of £7 for a beer
It’s much cheaper elsewhere: in the Midlands the average is around £4.68.
TfL data shows that the average journey time per person per day in London this year is around 54.8 minutes, including commutes and other daily journeys.
It’s clear that individual commutes vary widely: while 33% of Londoners reach their destination on one line, 12% need to change three or more times per journey.
How long does it take for an ambulance to arrive
Figures released by the London Ambulance Service in September showed that response times for crews reaching the most seriously ill patients, known as Category 1 calls, were six minutes and 40 seconds – the fastest since April 2022.
How much people spend on average on bills
Monthly household bills in London averaged between £300 and £500 in 2025.
Basic services such as electricity, gas and water cost on average between £150 and £250, with internet and phone bills between £60 and £100 and council tax between £100 and £250 depending on the council and the value of the property.
Groceries, transport and other costs add up: a weekly grocery shop for one person costs around £60 on average.
