The introduction of Karen Read will continue on Thursday with extra witness from the forensic scientist Maureen Hartnett of Massachusetts Police.
Hartnett told jury members on Wednesday about the damage she observed on the back of Read’s SUV, from a broken rear light to scratches, broken paint and a dent. Complaints claim Read, 45, drunk and deliberately rammed the vehicle in her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe, while he dropped him off at a house party in Canton in Canton shortly after midnight on January 29, 2022.
The lawyers of Read, however, claim that she was framed a “handy outsider” into a huge conspiracy of the law enforcement. They suggested that O’Keefe was actually defeated after entering the party at 34 FairView Road, at that time owned by a colleague police officer in Boston.
Retired Canton Police Lt. Paul Gallagher witnessed last week about finding a broken cocktail glass in the snow where O’Kefe’s body had been, and Hartnett told jury members on Wednesday that she saw apparent glass shards that rested on Read’s behind Bumper.
She also testified about finding a clear hair on the back of the vehicle, and noted that it did not seem to be complied with in any way the vehicle. Lawyer Robert Alessi seemed skeptical when he wondered if the apparent hair and glass fragments could have stayed on the vehicle while it traveled between Canton and Dighton during a snowstorm on the 29th. He also noted that the analysis of Hartnett could not determine when Read’s SUV was damaged.
“It is therefore possible that all the damage you discussed could have existed before January 29, 2022?” Alessi has asked.
“Yes, that is possible,” Hartnett replied.
Four others took the position on Wednesday, including the teenage niece of O’Keefe, who remembered more frequent arguments between her uncle and reads until the end of January 2022. Year earlier, O’Keefe had taken custody of his young niece and cousin after both parents had only been apart for a few months. Under a judicial order, the media should not be eliminated by the children because they are minors.
Only 14 years old, when her uncle “JJ” died, the niece of O’Keefe testified that he and Read read during a vacation to Aruba about New Year’s Eve in 2021. Read O’Keefe of someone else during the group trip, she claimed. During other arguments back in Massachusetts, O

According to the teenager, Read said that “she had the feeling that she was living in a nightmare.”
