LIVERPOOL They are believed to have prioritized signing a centre-back in January and managed to land young French star Jeremy Jacquet ahead of Premier League rivals Chelsea.
But poor performances and injuries to both Conor Bradley and Jeremy Frimpong have accelerated LIVERPOOL the pursuit of Murillo, who is seen as a player who can step into the first team immediately, and Murillo’s stock has risen sharply since his arrival from Brazil last year.
His composure on the ball, strength in duels and ability to break opposition lines with progressive play have made him a key figure for Nottingham Forest. However, with the club facing both on-field challenges and financial pressure, a high-value sale is seen as increasingly likely this summer.
LIVERPOOLIn the meantime, consider the central defender’s left position as a priority area. With the future of a number of defenders uncertain and long-term squad plans in place, the club is focusing on a younger profile who can develop under Arne Slot while offering immediate depth. Murillo’s age, physical profile and Premier League experience suit the club’s recruitment strategy.
Talks between the clubs have not yet begun, but the Reds are reportedly confident they can meet Forest’s valuation, which is expected to be in excess of £50m. Forest are willing to listen to offers but will look to create a competitive bidding environment, with interest also coming from clubs in Spain and Italy.
Will Liverpool actually make a formal offer for Murillo?
LIVERPOOL‘s interest in Murillo is logical – and also revealing. The club continues to invest heavily in emerging talent, with the aim of building a squad built for long-term success. Murillo is tailor-made for that approach. He has already shown he can perform in the Premier League, and his ceiling is high.
The concern, however, is whether the Reds risk overcrowding their defensive department without addressing more pressing structural issues elsewhere in the squad.
Another young centre-back adds potential, but not necessarily stability. At the same time, if Murillo develops into the commanding defender many expect him to be, passing on him could prove costly.
