The Dutch international scored the Reds’ fourth goal in a 5-2 win at Anfield to lift the club into the top five of the Premier League.
After struggling with set pieces on both sides of the ball for much of the season, the Merseyside team scored three goals from corners in a clinical first-half display.
With the league title out of reach, Gakpo will hope their newfound prowess in dead-ball situations can help them succeed in the UEFA Champions League or FA Cup.
“It was a good afternoon,” the forward told Sky Sports. “Step by step we are getting a better team. We have had a difficult moment during the season, but hopefully these last few games are the start of something good.”
“We worked very hard, even in the first half. We scored from two set pieces or maybe three. The score was 5-2, but the game was much closer than the final result. They are a good team.”
“We are coming to the end of the season and we are still busy with the Champions League and the FA Cup. There is a lot to play for. Hopefully we can keep the momentum we have and end the season on a good note.”
“When the game gets stuck and you know you can score from a set piece, we missed that earlier in the season. That’s good.”
Liverpool drew against Galatasaray in the last 16 of the Champions League. Gakpo is enjoying the second chance after the 1-0 defeat in Istanbul in September.
He said: “We’re ready for a fight. We’ve been there this season and we know what we’re up against.”
