Liverpool Risk Repeat from 2021 collapse after Slot’s Center-back Claim-Athletic Journalist Updates

The center-back situation of Liverpool has again come under the microscope and this time it is not only fans who are concerned.

After our defeat for the season against AC Milan, Arne Slot insisted that he was happy with his options at the back.

But with only two senior natural center halves available, that is a position that some may ask.

Speaking via athletics, Gregg reported Evans: “There is still a shortage in the middle after the move from Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen and an injury to Joe Gomez.

“It means that Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are the only available center-backs, with midfielders Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo that offer coverage.”

It is a worrying position to be in, especially if we have seen this film before.

The 2020/21 campaign unraveled when injuries forced Jurgen Klopp to use improvised defenders for months and although we eventually scraped a Champions League place, the title damage was caused early.

This summer we have already seen Nat Phillips sold and Gomez put off again.

Van Dijk starts the final phase of his career, and Konate – despite an impressive run in previous term – has struggled for consistency in availability.

Our head coach is perhaps open to the use of Gravenberch of Endo in Center-Back, even Andy Robertson has recorded there in the preseason, but for one side that concerns a title defense and fighting on multiple fronts are a gamble.

Who could sign Liverpool in the middle of the back?

Evans adds that Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace is admired and starts the last year of his contract.

The 24-year-old would offer Premier League experience and sustainability, although his compensation could be considerable.

We have already seen Liverpool that Jarell Quansah sells Bayer Leverkusen this summer, and that gap is not filled.

The need for a center-back remains existing and if we do not act, we run the risk of falling into an old and painful fall.
