Liverpool open talks to sign Dusan Vlahovic from Juventus

Liverpool have reportedly opened talks to sign Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, according to the Spanish newspaper Transfers.

The Serbian came into the spotlight after putting in eye-catching performances for Fiorentina. After being impressed by him, Arsenal reportedly showed interest in him, but the Bianconeri ultimately managed to secure his services in 2022.

However, the forward has failed to flourish in his career at the Allianz Stadium. With his existing contract set to expire at the end of this season, speculation over his future has arisen ahead of the upcoming winter transfer window.

Transfers states that Vlahovic currently earns €12 million per year in salary, and Juventus does not want to give him another term by matching his current wages. So he will probably leave in January or next summer.

Following the recent long-term injury to Alexander Isak, Liverpool are planning to sign a new striker in January and have identified Vlahovic as a serious option.

The Reds have already made contact to complete the deal, with Juventus willing to let him leave for a fee in the region of £17million. Liverpool are even willing to match the player’s current salary to persuade him to join.

Vlahovic has got off to a good start this season, scoring six goals and registering two assists in ten starts in all competitions. However, he has been out of action in recent weeks due to a groin injury and is unlikely to return before the second week of March. Therefore, it would be a surprise to see if Liverpool ultimately opt to secure his services in January.

Vlahovic to Liverpool

After Isak’s injury, Hugo Ekitike remains the only striker at Liverpool. Furthermore, the Merseyside club has a very thin front line as Mohamed Salah has joined the Egyptian national team for AFCON and Cody Gakpo is also out injured.

They tried to sign Antoine Semenyo from AFC Bournemouth in January, but the player has reportedly decided to join Manchester City. Now it will be interesting to see who Liverpool will ultimately sign next month to strengthen the frontline.

Meanwhile, after a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, Liverpool will take on Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend.
