Liverpool are goalless in their last two games and the last time they failed to score in three consecutive games was in January and February 2016.
That was Jurgen Klopp’s debut season and two of those games were played at Anfield.
While no one wants to dwell on the slump, the reality is that in December 1953, Liverpool lost three games in a row by a margin of three or more goals.
Arne, let’s not allow history to repeat itself!
Reasons for Liverpool to be optimistic
While there are few redeeming qualities at Liverpool at the moment, there are a few statistics that can give you reason for optimism.
None of Liverpool’s last 30 group/league matches in UEFA competition have ended in a draw since the 1-1 draw at Midtjylland in December 2020.
The Reds have won each of the last thirteen Champions League group/league matches at Anfield.
And the club have won each of their last five matches on matchday five of European competition, with a tally of 12-0.
Mo Salah may be off the boil, but he is having success against the Dutch

Mo Salah needs two goals to become the first African to score 50 goals in the Champions League. He has scored once in his last six games in the competition.
However, he has scored in each of his last two matches against Dutch sides – and he did so in both matches with Ajax in the 2022/23 edition of this competition.
Salah has scored 46 goals for the Reds in this competition. The next highest player currently in the squad is Virgil van Dijk with five!
On the night, he could also become only the fourth Liverpool player to have made 90 European appearances for the club, after Jamie Carragher (150), Steven Gerrard (130) and Sami Hyypia (94).
PSV inconsistent in the Champions League

So far in this season’s Champions League, PSV has lost at home to Union Sint-Gillis (1-3), drawn 1-1 at Bayer Leverkusen, won 6-2 against Napoli in Eindhoven and drew 1-1 at Olympiacos.
That victory over Napoli was the first time that PSV had ever scored six times in a (real) Champions League match.
They have not lost either of their two away games and are in 18th place with five points after four rounds. Liverpool, on the other hand, is eighth with nine points.
In PSV’s remaining three matches in the league phase after tonight, PSV will play Atletico Madrid at home and Newcastle away, before the home game against Bayern Munich ends – quite a draw!
