Liverpool confirms an appointment of the most important new employee

Liverpool has confirmed the appointment of new head of loan management Gary Probert, who leaves a senior role at Ipswich to become a member of the Reds.

PROBERT arrives in Liverpool from Ipswich, where he has traced director of football activities for four years and supervises the recruitment, academy, analysis and loans of the club.

In the past he also served as an Academy Manager at Bristol City and Youth Development Manager at Forest Green Rovers.

His new role is focused on loans and is an increasing importance for Liverpool, with 11 players currently on loan from the club.

PROBERT comes in to replace Matt Newberry, who has been promoted to director of worldwide talent for the Reds.

The task of Loans Manager is one that has previously offered a lot of upward mobility for those who take on the role, with the former resident Julian Ward becoming director of football before he started his current job alongside Michael Edwards for FSG.

The Training Ground Guru Reported that a club insider said that the “mix of operational experience and player development expertise made him the striking candidate” for a role that is crucial for Liverpool’s long-term strategy.

Part of the task of Probert will be to find suitable clubs for the players to maximize their development from Liverpool, so that they can be ready to play for Arne Slot or continue for a good price.

This summer alone, Liverpool earned more than £ 100 million when they sold six players who had played for the academy:

Jarell Quansah – £ 35 million – Bayer Leverkusen
Keelher Keelher – £ 18 million – Brentford
Tyler Morton – £ 15 million – Lyon
Trent Alexander-Arnold – £ 8.4 million – Real Madrid
Nat Phillips – £ 3 million – West Brom
Ben Do – £ 25 million – Bournemouth

  • Harvey Davies – Crawley
  • James Balagizi – Forest Green Rovers
  • James Norris – Shelbourne (until November 2025)

The appointment of Probert is part of a revolution in the club, with Rob Page and Simon Wiles being under 21 years old and under 18 years old.

The new head of loan management must also work closely with Luiz Fernando Iubel, the new individual development coach of the Reds, while they decide which young people are ready for the first team.

PROBERT has an important job because it is wrong to be a loan club harmful to the career of a young player.

Alternatively, a successful spell can set them up for success – just look at the time of Harvey Elliott at Blackburn.
