Liverpool are eyeing a bold move for Eduardo Camavinga

According to Spanish outlet TransfersLiverpool are eyeing a surprise move to sign Real Madrid star Eduardo Camavinga to strengthen their midfield department for manager Arne Slot.

The Merseyside giants have had a disappointing defense of their Premier League title and are fourteen points behind leaders Arsenal. The Reds currently face the challenge of finishing in the Champions League places. They sit fourth in the standings but there is a huge chase behind them to qualify for European competition next season.

This could prompt the Anfield team to spend big on a potential reinforcement this winter Transfers claim the English champions are drawing up an offer to sign Camavinga from Madrid. It is reported that the Spanish giants are open to parting ways with the Frenchman, and that he could be priced away for £61 million to £69 million.

Unlikely deal

Liverpool spent more than £450 million on new signings during the summer transfer window. Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike were signed for most of the summer budget, but the former is yet to find his feet at the Reds. The Swede is currently on the sidelines with a broken leg, but could play a role at the end of the season.

Slot would ideally want a new quality centre-back, with Ibrahima Konate set to leave when his contract expires on June 30. A defensive midfielder could also be targeted. Liverpool were close to signing Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad in 2024 before he opted to stay. He joined the Gunners during the last transfer window.

Camavinga, 23, would be a fantastic addition to the Reds. He has been in and out of the starting XI for Los Blancos this season but has still impressed with a average 2 tackles and won 66% of his duels. He would provide strong competition for places ahead of Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch and has the potential to become a mainstay in the heart of Liverpool’s midfield.

Still, a midseason seems unlikely. Liverpool were unwilling to compete with Manchester City to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace this month after missing out on his services on deadline day last summer. It probably suggests that they are willing to save their budgets for another big spending spree at the end of the campaign. Camavinga may also not be allowed to leave Madrid, who have just sacked Xabi Alonso and appointed Alvaro Arbeloa on a temporary basis for the rest of the season. His future could be assessed next summer.
