The Minnesota Timberwolves currently have two open gratings. Even if they decide to leave an open before the start of the regular season, many speculate that the team will sign a defense player. Although names were thrown away about who the player could be, one name that really isn’t often mentioned was a member of the team last season.
Bones Hyland appeared in 4 games for Minnesota
On Friday, after the Timberwolves signed Johnny Juzang, the Athletic’s Jon Krawcyznski tweeted that Minnesota may still be more experienced guards. A name he brought up is Bones Hyland, who ended with the Wolves last season.
Juzang’s deal with the Wolves will be a camp deal. They will still consider more experienced guards. One name that has not been publicly discussed: Bones Hyland. Still think there is a possibility

You can forgive Timberwolves fans if they don’t remember much from Hyland in the sweater of their favorite team. The 24-year-old Point Guard only played four games for them for a total of 17 minutes. He scored five points and extended four assists in that shortened time.
Hyland was traded on the Hawks of the Clippers in February and was subsequently abandoned. A few weeks later the wolves added him for a two -way deal. Hyland illuminated the box score in two trips with the Iowa Wolves of the G League. He on average 33.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 4.0 Steals in those two games.
Made All-Rookie second team in 2021-22
Selected by the Nuggets with the 26th general choice in the NBA design of 2021, Hyland looked out as someone who could play the role of microwave of the bank. The 6-foot-2 guard had an average of 10.1 points as a rookie and earned himself his way to the second team of All-smokie. He was also on average double digits when scoring in 2022-23, in a year he played for both Denver and the Clippers.
The playing time of Hyland has decreased the last two seasons where he has not had so much impact (although he scored a career-high 37 points in the 2023-24 season). The clippers let James Harden and Kris Dunn take the lion’s share of the point guard minutes last season, while Hyland was still roasted by them.
Because Hyland has now played for four years, he is no longer eligible for a two -way contract. If the Timberwolves are indeed still interested in him, they do not necessarily have to give him a standard deal. Just like Juzang, Hyland can receive a Training Camp Deal to try to earn its way in the regular seasonal loster.
