Manchester United conceded twice on Saturday against Nottingham Forest, which is currently in the relegation zone.
It took a miraculous strike from Amad for the Red Devils to draw level, but there are clearly holes in the armor that Ruben Amorim must address.
Especially at the back, where Diogo Dalot had a game to forget at left back. Luke Shaw is expected to fill in as left centre-back in the absence of Lisandro Martinez.
The Argentine’s return will offer Amorim the opportunity to take Dalot out of the line of fire and play Shaw out wide. And according to recent reports, the World Cup winner is closing in on a return to action after suffering an ACL injury last season.
Lisandro Martinez is nearing a return
He has already returned to full training and there were suggestions he could be back for the games against Brighton and Nottingham Forest.
But it is clear that Amorim is not taking any chances, and the Red Devils are very cautious about his reintroduction.
According to The Daily MailThe 20-time English league champion believes the ex-Ajax star’s recovery would be best served by joining the Argentina national team and training with them during the November international break, rather than remaining with Carrington.
“Lisandro Martinez could feature for Argentina during the international break, even though he might not have made his return for United after a long-term knee injury.
Training plans
“Martinez is back in full training for the first time since he tore a cruciate ligament in early February, but Amorim is careful not to rush the 27-year-old defender.
“It is clear that United feel that Martinez’s recovery would be better served by training at a high level with Argentina, rather than remaining with Carrington while most of his team-mates are away on international duty and the rest will have some time off and lighter training.”
The return of Lisandro Martinez will be a huge boost for Amorim, given his ability with and without the ball. United have been missing a fiery presence at the back and someone who can break the lines with his passing.
Hopefully he can stay fit and start shooting soon. United need him if they want to finish in the top four of the Premier League at the end of this season.
