Alex Greenwood hopes to have a similar performance as her striking show against the Netherlands last week while the Lionesses are facing Sweden on Thursday evening. A person who has been in Greenwood’s Hoek for a while is partner Jack O’Connell, who has been released with the English International since the sixth form. “And I am grateful for the matches I played, the moments I lived on the field, and for my teammates – of whom many will be friends for life. It was all a dream come true.
“For now, thank you. First, to partner Alex, who gave me support for my lowest moments. She is an extremely talented football player and it has been a great comfort to see her career in strength to strength. I am her biggest fan.”
After his own sad exit, O’Connell was present to consolate Greenwood that same year when England completely reached the final of the Women’s World Cup in Australia, to be surpassed 1-0 by Champions Spain. The former defender was full of praise for his girlfriend’s performance on the biggest stage, told Sky Sports: “[I’m] Really proud of her.
“I have been there from the start. I always went to watch Alex when she was 16. It is incredible how far it has grown now. I am also her greatest critic. The standard she sets herself, she has more to come
Now Greenwood strives for even more international glory with the lion ribbons because they want to keep their euro trophy in Switzerland. England goes against Sweden in the quarterfinals of the euros and starts on Thursday evening at 8 p.m. at 8 p.m., after bouncing back from their opening from 2-1 defeat to France with 4-0 and 6-1 victories about the Netherlands and Wales respectively.
