Lionesses star Lucy Bronze has thrown lightly to the camp’s reaction to the tragic death of Liverpool -Spits Diogo Jota while preparing for the euro -opener of their wives
England star Lucy Bronze says that the lionesses remained in shock when they heard about the death of Diogo Jota. The Liverpool star and his brother Andre Silva were tragic killed in a car accident in Spain With the Portugal International Stare on Thursday morning .
The silence of a moment is held for the Euro 2025 matches tonight and tomorrow, including the group opener of Portugal against Spain. England starts their own campaign against France on Saturday, and Bronze thought about how she and her teammates reacted to the news.
“Yes, it was absolutely shocked all the team when we woke up this morning and the news began to spread,” said Bronze. “Of course we have a lot of Liverpool fans in our team and football fans, but for people in general everyone just thinks of them – he and his brother.
“They were also so young. We have seen all the messages on social media and so, so that you can see what a great guy he has been. It’s just very sad and we were really shocked by the news.”
She added: “We will watch the games tonight and Portugal will play their first game against Spain and I know that a minute of silence will be held before that game. I think everyone in an English shirt and everyone in the tournament will support the Portuguese team because they will be much closer than we do.

“It’s just a very sad moment for everyone who is involved in football, knowing what a great guy he is and what a great year he has had – not only in football, but he got married a few weeks ago and he has a few small children. It’s just so sad.”
Jota, who was 28, was part of Liverpool’s Premier League Title Winning Squad under Arne Slot. He also won the UEFA Nations League 2024-25 with Portugal, and played 15 minutes of the last victory over Spain.
“Only three weeks ago I had the honor of presenting Diogo Jota a medal after the final of the UEFA Nations League – a moment of joy, pride and celebration that will now be burned with sorrow,” said UEFA president Aleksandar Ceferin.
“His passion, energy and spirit on the field inspired everyone around him. It is devastating to think that a life that is so full of joy and potentially way too fast. Rest in peace, dear Diogo. You will not be forgotten.”
