Lionel Messi enjoy the last days of his pre-season holiday, which will prepare him for a demanding 2026, both at club and international level. Yet he is fully aware that retirement is approaching, which is why he recently opened up about his plans for the next chapter of his life.
During an interview with Luzu TV, Messi was asked what he plans to do when he hangs up his boots. ‘To be honest, I don’t see myself as a coach’ he said at the beginning. “I would like to become sporting director, but if I had to choose one option, I like the idea of being an owner better.”
The Argentine forward completely ruled out the idea of working as a head coach and instead leaned towards an executive role. Although he acknowledged that he would not be opposed to serving as sporting director or a similar position, along the lines of David Beckham and becoming a club owner seems to be his preferred path.
“I would like to have my own clubto help a team grow, start from the bottom up and give opportunities to young players and people so that they can develop,” Messi added. “I would like to build an important club. If I had to choose a direction, I think this is the idea I like the most.”
