Leicester city appointed Marti Cifuentes after an impressive spell at QPR, which ended on a sour note. The Spaniard reportedly fell out with R’s CEO Christian Nourry and subsequently left after being placed on gardening leave.
He was brought in to stabilize the club after relegation, with the expectation that he would remain in the promotion conversation. However, that hope has yet to materialize with the Foxes lagging far behind.
Cifuentes has now lost his job as Foxes boss and they have suffered another transfer blow in their search for a replacement. Reported LCFC target Ibrahim Diabate does not appear set to make the move to the King Power.
The GAIS forward now joins Sharjah FC in the UAE Rob Dorsett on X. Earlier this month it emerged that LCFC had reached an agreement in principle to sign the striker.
Who is Ibrahim Diabate?
Diabate started his career in his native Ivory Coast with ASEC Mimosas, one of Africa’s most respected clubs, and was promoted to the first team in September 2017 after a loan spell at Ligue 2 side Ivoire Academy.
He moved to Spain in 2019, joining RCD Mallorca’s reserve team and impressed with a strong goalscoring season as they narrowly missed out on promotion via the play-offs.
That form earned him a move to Sevilla Atletico, and he made his senior Sevilla debut in the Copa del Rey in January 2021 before spending the rest of the season with Atletico Madrid B.
With options in Spain limited, Diabate moved to Sweden in July 2023 to sign for Vasteras SK. He played a key role in their promotion from the Superettan, although the club endured a difficult Allsvenskan campaign in 2024 and were relegated despite his regular involvement.
Ahead of the 2025 season, Diabate secured a fresh start at GAIS via a free transfer. He immediately blossomed, enjoying a breakthrough Allsvenskan campaign, finishing as joint top scorer and helping GAIS to an impressive third-place finish.

Leicester City’s selection has enough quality to make a serious climb up the rankings in 2026. A strong form could still put them in contention.
However, that progress seems unlikely without addressing the lack of targets. Replacing Jamie Vardy in the summer was crucial, and it is a problem that Leicester have not adequately resolved.
Julian Carranza has been and gonewhile Jordan Ayew has struggled as the lone striker. LCFC had also looked at Lyndon Dykes this month but, like Diabate, he has moved elsewhere
